Why Do you need a Will?
Fiscal savings: A structured will can reduce estate duties and administration costs, ensuring maximum benefit for your heirs.
Freedom of testation
Upholding a cornerstone of South African law of succession by preserving your right to bequeath assets.
Asset protection
A will guarantees your property and assets are given as per your wishes, avoiding potential inheritance by estranged family members.
Childcare assurance
In the absence of a will, a minor child's inheritance is held in the Guardian’s fund until they're 18. A will provides direction.
Legal clarity
Without a will, your estate decisions fall under the intestate succession act, potentially leading to undesired results.

- FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How to fill out last will and testament form?
For a will to be considered valid, the testator or testatrix must sign each page of the will, and two competent witnesses must sign the last page in the presence of the testator or testatrix.
The witnesses should not be beneficiaries under the will, nominated guardians, or nominated executors.
How to find the will of a deceased person online in South Africa?
Unfortunately, there is no way to find or access a deceased person’s will online.
If you would like to obtain a copy of the will, you will need to submit an application for a copy at the Master of the High Court.
Alternatively, you may arrange to view the estate file in person at the Master’s Office.
How to find out if a deceased person has investments?
Unfortunately, there is no single way to determine whether a deceased person had investments.
However, you can obtain a letter from the Master of the High Court, commonly referred to as a “bank letter”.
This letter allows you to contact financial institutions and enquire whether the deceased held any financial products with them.
This option is generally used when the estate has not yet been reported and there is no Letter of Executorship or Letter of Authority in place.
If a Letter of Executorship or Letter of Authority has already been issued, the authorised person, such as the executor or appointed representative, may request information directly from the relevant financial institutions.
